GiliSoft USB Stick Encryption creates a password-protected partition on your USB memory stick for you to keep your sensitive information away from prying eyes. It transforms your FAT drive into a full-fledged NTFS disk, where it creates a Secure Area where you can move large files (larger than 4GB) and have all your information encrypted for extra security.
The way the program works is really simple and gratifying. The program’s one-window interface is neatly organized in four main areas, each with a big button assigned to it. First of all, and as a pre-requisite to make use of the rest of the program’s functionality, you are required to format your FAT-based USB drive into an NTFS new drive, where the program can then encrypt your files, create a partition, and store larger files. Once your drive is ready, you can start thinking of how large or how small your Secure Area needs to be. By default, the program will use half the storage capacity of your memory stick for the new Secure Area, but you can always make it larger or smaller.
The Secure Area will appear in your system as an independent drive with a new drive letter that you will be asked to choose. Likewise, you will need to enter and confirm a password, which will block and protect that section of the USB drive from unwanted visits. It takes only a couple of minutes and a few clicks to go through the entire process, and you can start moving content to your new protected area immediately. The files and folders you create or paste there will be automatically encrypted using 256-bit AES algorithms. You can carry your USB drive with you and use it in any other computer, as all the access information will travel with you in the USB device. All in all, a simple and gratifying little tool that is certainly worth trying.
